Moin und Hallo,
While I write this I’m sitting at a cute little coffee place, which is quite a rare sight. Coffee culture is definitely different here in the US than it is in Germany. In Hamburg we used to go to our favorite cafés and enjoy sipping our coffee there, even if it was just for some minutes before we went to work. I know that the Americans practically invented the coffee to go but I didn’t imagine there to be so little places where you could actually sit down. This combined with the fact that there are even fewer places where you are allowed to bring your dog, and I’m usually never without one, makes it even harder.
Well back to the topic that is life in the US / yes we made it. The container with most of our belongings arrived safely, I am reunited with my wardrobe and while we still have no wifi yet I am (very) slowly starting to have a routine again, helping me to do sports, eat well, dress and therefore feel like myself again.
To wear: Inspired by cars
Niklas and I always joke how you can literally get through life here without hearing any news, without meeting or even seeing any people. It is just very easy to drive somewhere, buy something, go home. No need to think. Obviously you don’t even need to leave the house to shop, everything can be dropped at you doorstep. So far people have treated me here so nicely, it is a very big difference to Germany, people just stop and ask if you need help, they make compliments, they ask you about your day. Still I think it’s more difficult to actually get to know people, to get to the bottom of things, to their soul. (And you know if the heart and soul is not involved I don’t want it). Okay, I am making a big loop here, but what I actually wanted to say is that, what really everyone here has in common, is, that they have a car and they usually drive it everywhere. And these cars are like the people’s shells. You see all kinds of cars, there’s way more range, in shape, in size, in color. I don’t know if this just happened due to the lack of personal connection and therefore inspiration that I feel, but the cars kind of inspired me. Instead of seeing someone and thinking oh I like this color on her/him I kind of felt this way about cars:
Jeep Wrangler Rubicon

Police Brookhaven Car

Jeep Wrangler

Corvette

Toyota Landcruiser

Things I want to read:
I pride myself with the fact that in the first 5 months with baby Etto I still managed to continue reading my books. I even brought some books with me to the US but Im slowly working myself through my stack and I have to find a new supplier in the US. In Germany I used to buy all my books secondhand, mostly through rebuy, but they only operate in Europe. Also I might be caving in and get an e-book reader to be able to read in the night without switching on the lights and waking up the baby.
Would not mind getting these two cookbooks:
The Happy Endings Cook Book and the Cafe Cecilia Cook Book

Maybe they appeal to me even more since I’m currently more in the mood to cook at home.
Also we’ve seen it all over Instagram but Miranda July’s “All Fours” is still on my list. As well as Bird Milk and Mosquito Bites (my favorite word ever is “Kashmiri”), The Coast Road, The Winner and Ask me Again, which I came across through The New Yorker. In their reading lists I always find new books that I haven’t heard of before.
Things I want to recreate:
It’s absolutely nothing new that I am obsessed with everything Alaia does. I want it all! After seeing the Alaia Spring 2025 RTW show we all know tube tops and balloon skirts are making a comeback and I am looking for a nice long Alaia-esque skirt. I remembered that while pregnant I bought these Wandler jeans on Vinted that kind of have a similar vibe.

Things I want to buy:
Before moving to the US I made a list (my favorite thing, making lists and never following through) about brands that are exclusively or at least more easily available in the US. Also I made a list of things I have to buy and bring to the US, I know I know, the US is not the end of the world but it does seem like its own world in a lot of ways.
Eliou for fun jewellry

Anything you want to add?
Things I want to eat:
When my sister visited me in Atlanta, she took me to this pizza place called Emmy Squared, where they had a really nice brussels sprout salad with almond, miso, dried cherries and blue cheese. While I always loved brussels sprouts, especially with miso and almonds, it was the first time I had raw brussels sprouts. I will probably recreate this for our Thanksgiving dinner.
And since some people asked me for the recipe again, if you love seeds and nuts, THIS bread to make at home is the best. I literally mix in whatever nuts I have at home. It does really deserve its name, because it is life-changing. Even more so if you toast it before you eat it!!!
In diesem Sinne bleibt bunt und fröhlich! Falls ihr Stylingfragen oder sonstige Wünsche habt, schreibt mir gerne einen Kommentar oder eine E-Mail an fitcheckbynora@gmail.com .
